This is a short movie about the benefits of yoga practiced by seniors. For seven years I teach yoga in a retirement community and I noticed great results obtained by perseverant practice of the yoga methods by people with age between 72 to 100 years. I created this short movie as a proof that yoga can be beneficial to all, regardless of age, and as an encouragement to never give up the yoga practice, for any reason, especially for age reasons. I hope you this movie will inspire you to practice yoga and to enjoy its full benefits. If you enjoyed the movie please like, share, subscribe. Please watch this trailer for the upcoming mini film about how seniors benefit from the practice of yoga. The seniors featured have ages between 73-93 years. I am so grateful to them for allowing me to record their thoughts and testimonials related to their practice of yoga. Many of them had never practiced yoga before they came to live in the retirement community where we have classes. But keeping an open mind and heart they added yoga to their daily life routine and after a short time started to see improvements in their lives. Most of our seniors have experienced health benefits such as less pain, more strength, balance, and coordination. Most have seen improved concentration and creativity. They have been able to go back to specific life enjoyment activities which age specific problems had taken away from them.
Discovering the spiritual benefits of yoga, these seniors have begun to feel like they are "part of the whole universe". Giving them a complete new life perspective. The lady who closes the mini film was born blind. Even with her life long disability, yoga practice has brought her unexpected benefits which we will feature in a upcoming video. he yoga warm up should be practice at the begining of each hatha yoga session. It helps to loosen up the spine and neck muscles. The blood and energy will flow freely through the neck which will improve the brain's functions. The energy centers along the spine will open up and will increase the spine's flexibility. You can practice the warm up anytime during the day independent of other yoga practices. Check with your physician if you are fit for yoga. If you enjoyed the class please like and subscribe.

Senior yoga for neck and spine. So many seniors have problems with their cervical vertebras and the spine in general. These problems can result in head aches, dizziness, migraines, confusion, the inability to keep the head up and the neck strait, pinched nerves, back pains and much more. The exercises for neck and spine can strengthen the neck and spine muscles, can realign the cervical and entire spine's vertebras. Can open the rib cage which can result in better breathing. Elongate the spine creating intervertebral spaces which will release pinched nerves. The chiropractors will tell you the health of your spine reflects the health of your entire body. It is very important to keep the spine strong, flexible and heathy if we want to have a good and healthy life at no matter what age. So practice these exercises routine a few times a day and shortly you will see the results. They are recommended to be practice always before a yoga session. Enjoy!

One Des Moines resident credits the art of yoga as the medicine she needs to keep her up and running.
“One reason I feel younger is because I take yoga and it keeps me limber," says Maurine Diehl. Maurine isn't your typical yoga student. "I'm a hundred; I’m passed a hundred now,” says Diehl. Along with about a dozen residents at Scottish Rite Park, Maurine takes chair yoga, a class adapted to senior citizens to keep them flexible and moving. "We are surprised here with the results, because all of them have a lot of challenges with their health, and they tell me I walk because I do this, I can move and stand up and do everything because I exercise,” says yoga instructor, Ofelia Mohr. As the classes oldest student, Maurine says yoga gives her something to look forward to and keeps her on her toes. "I come because it makes me feel so good, it keeps me limber and it keeps me feeling well,” says Diehl. The class which meets three times a week has become a staple in many of the students’ lives, giving them abilities and strength to live without the use of a wheel chair or cane. "It's important to be able to get around, and no pain, that's nice too,” says Diehl. As for the secret to living past 100, Maurine credits yoga and staying active as two things that have helped her live a fulfilling and independent life. "I'm still feeling great,” says Diehl. |
