Mavis:
After I started practicing yoga for a while I noticed I felt more flexible, I have a better sense of balance and less hip and leg pain. I also enjoy the social aspects of being together in a relaxing and beneficial activity. If I miss the yoga class for a couple of days I can really tell in my body because I have more stiffness and sore muscle. Coral: I figure any exercise I do is good. I like to go to morning and swimming exercises. I am interested in improving my balance. Doris: I like yoga because is gives me quiet time. I like the way I feel afterwards, my joints are more flexible. I like the fellowship of the class and the expertise of the yoga teacher. Priscilla: I feel wonderful emotionally and physically when I do yoga. If I miss the class I don't feel as good. It improves the quality of my life. I receive so many physical and emotional benefits from doing yoga and it makes me feel wonderful. Cornelia: I have fibromyalgia and yoga is the most important physical activity for me. It lowers my pain, I can walk better and I enjoy coming at the class. Liz: I come to class because I feel so much better after yoga practice. I am more balanced. I learn to relax and enjoy the relaxation feeling. I had a mini stroke and the doctors credited my fast recovery on my regular yoga practice. The therapists were very impressed. The exercises they gave me for physical therapy were almost the same I do in yoga classes and this helped my recovery. I want to emphasize this is not an exercise class. I do not like to do regular physical exercises but I like to do yoga. |
Kay:
I really like the quiet time when I let go of all the worries from my mind. I like the sensation as I move different parts of my body. I like to feel the energy through my whole body as we work through the yoga poses. I like the final relaxation, when I have a floating relaxed feeling. Because the body movements are slow it makes me more loose, toned and relaxed. I also enjoy the social time. Lee: I find the stretching and movement particularly good for my shoulders, feet and legs. I enjoy most of the yoga poses. The few I don't really like but I know they are good for me and for the cranky parts of my body. I really think yoga keeps us in good shape. I think it's very good for our bodies. If I don't come to the class for couple of days I can feel the difference in the flexibility in my body. Nancy: It helps me relieve stress. It relaxes me very much. It improves my flexibility and I noticed this when I come to the class regularly, if I miss I get stiff. The sociability of the class is very important for me too. John: You need to come 6-7 times to start to feel the benefits. My neck is a lot looser after yoga. For me it eliminates neck pain and improves my posture. I have two knee replacements and yoga keeps my knees flexible. The bonding is very important, like a spiritual connection. In class my mind will take a break and I can leave my worries at the door. Jo: Yoga certainly made me aware of my body tensions and taught me relaxation which helps me sleep better. It teaches exercises that you can practice at home -even watching tv. |
